About Hocking College Women's Basketball

The women’s basketball team completed its first season under Head Coach Travecia Franklin. The team competes in Region XII of the NJCAA. In 2021-2022, the team will officially begin its first season competing in Division II. The squad finished the 2021 Spring Season (delayed due to COVID-19) with a 2-5 record. The team placed two members on the All-OCCAC Team, Jada Lazaro and Jasmine Manuel. Lazaro was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the conference and Manuel led the nation in rebounds per game with 20.0

Travecia Franklin
Women's Basketball Head Coach

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Travcia Franklin attended Indiana State University from 2011-2015 and received a degree in Communications-Electronic Media with a minor in criminology. 

After graduating from ISU, she played in Langen, Germany, for two years. After two years in Europe, Franklin returned to the United States, where she began her coaching career as the assistant coach at Whitehall High School. In 2019 she became the director of basketball operations for Buckeye Prep and online sports magazine. June 2019, she became the head girls basketball coach at Mifflin High School in Columbus, Ohio.  
Demond Hairston
Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

Hairston was born and raised in Columbus, OH. He attended Columbus South High School where he was a Varsity letter winner in Football, Track, Basketball, Wrestling, and Tennis. 

Hairston began his coaching career in 1998 with Columbus Parks and Recreation, and later moved on to his Alumni as a Graduate Assistant at Wilberforce University. He later became a Recruiting assistant at Cincinnati State Community College Where he helped recruit one the college top Women’s classes. 

After the College coaching stint Hairston moved on to coach girl’s high school basketball in the Columbus City League as a Varsity head coach at South High School. He also coached Jr. High girls and boys. Hairston's experience is not only limited to high school. He also has experience in recruiting and coaching vs. International Talent as he serves as the Scouting Director of Midwest for The Beyond Borders International Game. 

With over 20 years of coaching and recruiting experience Hairston has also garnished a successful AAU/Club Career With elite programs like Ohio/TN Glory, Cincy Phenom, and TEAM AT31. Where he has coached and developed numerous players to take their games to the collegiate or professional levels.
